Doris Holshouser

Doris R. Clanton Holshouser, 92, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation.  She was born July 24, 1923 in East St. Louis, a daughter of the late Emil and Alice (Wilson) Croissant.  She married Eugene Clanton and he passed away in 1974.  She later married Ralph Lee Holshouser Jr. on August 24, 1982 in Honolulu, Hawaii and he passed away on March 2, 2015.  After their marriage they lived in Anna for 20 years while maintaining property for the Haas Family.  She had worked many years as a Butcherette for A&P Grocery in East St. Louis and also as a clerk at Shermers Men’s Clothing in Granite City.  She enjoyed her days of sewing, working with crafts, days of fishing, gardening and shopping.  Doris will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.  She is survived by a granddaughter and her husband, Leslie and Terry Crook of Troy, Illinois; a grandson and his wife, William and Amy Laycock of Marine, Illinois; four great grandchildren, Kaleb and Kile Crook and William and Bryce Laycock; son-in-law, William R. Laycock of Granite City; step-son and his wife, Terry and Jacqueline Holshouser of Lexington, Missouri; sister-in-law, Winnie Kane of Belleville; Nieces and nephews and their spouses, Brenda and Ron Weckman of Granite City, Kermit Croissant of Fairview Heights, Adrian and Norma Croissant of Belleville, Dale and Linda Croissant of Freeburg, Victor and Liz Croissant of Belleville and Dennis and Frances Croissant of Fairview Heights; great nieces, Keri Haefner; great nephew, Greg Weckman; other extended family and friends.  In addition to her beloved husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Laycock; great grandson, Drew Laycock; two sisters, Virginia Richards and Wilhelmina Fuller; six brothers, Emil “Butch” Croissant, Kermit Croissant, Clifford “Gip” Croissant, Adrian Croissant, LeRoy Croissant and Harold Croissant and two infant siblings.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Chaplain Thomas Nadelin officiating.  Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.  Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and may be accepted at the funeral home.  www.irwinchapel.com
