John Paul Zimmermann, 78, of Freeburg, IL, born August 2, 1946, in Belleville, IL, died Sunday, August 4, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.
John worked as a mason for 44 years for BAC Union Local 8. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a member of the OKAW Hunt Club, Mississippi Duck Hunters, and Quail Forever. In his free time, he enjoyed going boating on Lake of Egypt. John was a graduate of both St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and Freeburg Community High School. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Arlene E., nee Heimrich, Zimmermann; and a brother-in-law, James Wessel.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Janet Kay Zimmermann, nee Kidd, whom he married on November 15, 1968;
his son, Jeffrey Zimmermann;
his daughter, Jodi (Shane) Krauss;
three grandchildren, Mason and Ian Zimmermann, and Breanna Krauss;
two sisters, Marion Wessel
and Dianne Zimmermann
a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Jeanne Whiting;
and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL, with Fr. Michael Arockiam officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Freeburg, IL.
