Charles Black

Charles Wayne Black was born on July 24, 1956 in East Saint Louis, Illinois, to Charles Black and Hester (Baker) Black. He was one of four children and the baby of the family.

He attended Cahokia High School where he graduated. Then he went and joined the marines to serve his country. He went by Wayne. He was a very hard worker. His last place of employment was Wastequip where he worked 20+ years as a metal fabricator. Wayne loved to go camping, fishing, and to do his trout lines with his family. He loved BBQing and frying fish and hush puppies. He was the life of the party. There was not a person in town that didn’t know “Dawg”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, also his son, Christopher Black; and his daughter, Tracy Wehrman; and his grandson, Austin Rackley.

He leaves to cherish his memories, three siblings, Brenda Ruffino Phyllis (Les), Voudrie, and Phillip (Joy) Black; two living children, Amber Davenport and Heather Powell; nine grandchildren, Tyler Geoppo, Brendon Wehrman, Nicholas Geoppo, Madison Wehrman, Mariah Powell, Curtis Calbreath, Jacob Powell, Jordan Leggans, Jr., and Jaelynn Leeper; one great grandson named, Ezekeil Cochrane; many nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews and all these people named above loved him dearly and will miss him daily.

Rest in heaven now pain free and with your past loved ones you now may sing dance and not suffer anymore.

Serenity Memorial is in charge of arrangements.

The visitation was on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. at Serenity Memorial Chapel in Belleville.
