Maria M. “Marlene” Cook, 76, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, Missouri. She was born February 29, 1948, in Bamberg, Germany, a daughter of the late Hans Alfred Winter and Margereta (Hafner) Klevinskas. She married William D. “Bill” Cook in December 1972 in New Orleans, Louisiana and he passed away on November 15, 2005. Marlene was always on the go and enjoyed her years of being active with the Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Elks Lodge, Lions Club and the Mexican Honorary Commission. She was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed traveling and making many visits back home to Germany. She also enjoyed her creative talents working with arts, days of shopping and had a love for Halloween and Christmas time. She loved her dog, Leah and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tanja and Rev. Christopher Cook-Sedabres of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, David W. and Christy Cook of Granite City; five grandchildren, Mychael Thompson, Brayden Cook, Tyler Cook, Grace Sedabres and William “Billy” Sedabres; nine siblings in Germany, Gerhard, Angelika, Toni, Irene, Roland, Wolfgang, Petra, Silvana and Manuela; sister-in-law, Sue Johnson of Granite City; two nieces, Terri Johnson-Bast of Granite City and Dawn Mushill of Troy; nephew, Randy Cook of Caseyville; two great nieces, Bailey Johnson of Granite City and Kaylee Cook of Caseyville; many nieces and nephews in Germany; other extended family and friends. In celebration of her life, a visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 4 p.m. until time of a funeral service at 6 p.m. with Pastor Chris Sedabres officiating.
