Philip W. Mason, age 69 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Breese Caring First Nursing Home in Breese, IL.
He was born on Sunday, January 23, 1955, in Tulsa, OK, the son of Amos and Mary (nee Weir) Mason.
On Saturday, September 4, 1982, he married Julia J. Johnson at Muscatine, Iowa, who survives.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. He was also a member of Highland Optimist Club and Chicago Bears’ Fan Club.
Phil was born in Tulsa, OK, and grew up there. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1973. He worked for Ken’s Pizza in Tulsa and several other locations. He purchased Mazzio’s Pizza in Highland in 1991. He also operated a Mazzio’s in Fairview Heights, IL. For a time, he operated the Bull & Bear Restaurant in Edwardsville, IL. He still operated the Highland location. Phil enjoyed playing golf; participating in the over 40 softball league; assisting with the Highland Quarterback Club and helping with the high school field improvements. He was an avid supporter of his sons’ athletic participation. Phil was a “hard worker,” he was always eager to help people and organizations.

- Mother – Mary Ellen Mason, nee Weir – Died 3/13/2006
- Granddaughter – Magnolia Kate Mason – Died 7/27/2017 Infant
- Sister – Carol Jean Mason – Died 1958 Infant
- Sister-In-Law – Susan Mason – Died 8/28/2024
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL.
Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL, with William E. Kapp, pastor, Evangelical United Church of Christ, officiating.
Private Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
