Florence Huelsmann

Florence F. Huelsmann, age 90 of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, IL.

She was born on Monday, June 25, 1934, in Aviston, IL, the daughter of Henry and Mary (nee Koelker) Timmermann.

On Tuesday, May 6, 1958, she married Francis George Huelsmann at St. Francis of Assisi Church-Aviston, IL, who survives.

She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church-Highland, IL; St. Anne Altar Society; VFW Post 5694 Auxiliary.

Mrs. Huelsmann was born in Aviston and grew up there. She attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, later obtaining her GED. She worked in St. Louis at American Insurance until her marriage and they started a family. While their children were growing up she was a stay-at-home mom. She worked many part-time jobs – Tschannen’s Dime Store, Doyles Flower Shop, including house cleaning for individuals in Highland. She enjoyed sewing, quilting & crafts. She liked to play cards and Dominoes. Florence was a volunteer at St. Paul Catholic Church and the VFW where she served lunches, fish fries and worked the concession stand. She was a family person and enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.

  • Son – Glenn F. (Glenda) Huelsmann, Highland, IL
  • Son – Dale G. (Significant Other-Jodie Gibbs) Huelsmann , Collinsville, IL
  • Brother – Arthur (Darlene) Timmermann, Highland, IL
  • Grandchild – Kyle (Shannon) Luitjohan
  • Grandchild – Jason (Genni) Luitjohan
  • Grandchild – Cory (Molly) Luitjohan
  • Grandchild – Patrick (Brianne) Huelsmann
  • Grandchild – Brenden Huelsmann
  • Grandchild – Joshua Huelsmann
  • Grandchild – Carliann (Michael) Reynolds
  • Grandchild – Linda (Significant Other-Ethan Recai) Lyons

She was preceded in death by:

  • Brother-in-law – Virgil W. Ratermann 12/24/1923-6/16/1993
  • Sister-In-Law – Barbara C. Timmermann 09/30/1932-9/4/2010.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8-9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, with Rev. Fr. Pat G. Jakel, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will be at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made as Masses, VFW Post #5694 or St. Paul School Educational Foundation.
