June E. [Davis] LeGate of Maryville, IL [formerly of Granite City, IL] passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL at the age of 89. June was born on April 23, 1934, in Granite City, IL.
In September of 1951, June met the love of her life on a blind date. June and Virgil E LeGate eloped to Pocahontas, AR on October 2, 1951, to be married. June was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, and a dear friend to everyone she met. June loved to sing. She would always sing “You Are My Sunshine” to all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her voice was so loving and calm to hear. In addition to spending time with her family, she loved to spend time working jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, and playing bingo.
Her husband of sixty-nine years, Virgil preceded her in death on December 12, 2020. Her parents, John Edward and Dora “Alma” [Gosnell] Davis, and siblings, Thelma Pryor, Jolene Hessling, Louise Hughes, and Robert Dale Davis [in infancy] also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her devoted loving children, Maureen (Daniel) Schnefke, Carolyn (Dean) Brown, Keith (Sheila) LeGate, David LeGate, and Ken (Sheila) LeGate; and siblings, Darrell Davis and Ron Davis, proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of her life, a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Glen Carbon, IL, with Pastor Tom Hufty officiating. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.
