Bertie Dickson

Bertie Lee Dickson, nee George, age 96, of O’Fallon, Ill., was born September 20, 1928 in London, Kentucky. She passed away following a brief illness on November 23, 2024.

Bertie’s family moved from Kentucky to Danvers, Illinois, when she was a young girl. On September 24, 1949, she married a hometown boy, Donald T. Dickson, who served in World War II.

Bertie loved country music and enjoyed dancing with her husband Don. She was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, and shopping with her daughter. Bertie was a dedicated homemaker; she loved her children dearly and that love grew bigger with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.

She is preceded in death by her husband Donald, who passed away October 6, 2018; father James Tilford George; her mother (who died when Bertie was a child) Lola Catherine, nee Jones, George; her step-mother Dorotha George; and her sister Geneva Dickson.

She is survived by her daughter Kathie (Ken) Johnson of Decatur, Ill.; son Kirk Dickson of O’Fallon, Ill.; five grandchildren Jeff (Kara) Johnson, Scott Johnson, Crystal Deterding, Beth Moonier, and Tyson (Heather) Moonier; seven great-grandchildren Alexandra, Grace, and Levi Johnson, Jessie and Emme Deterding, and Shay and Lana Moonier; and her half-sister Janet (Ed) Moser.

Memorial donations may be made to the HSHS Hospice, to whom the family is grateful for their comforting care. Post a tribute at www.wfh-ofallon.com.

The family will receive friends from 12–1:30 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2024 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O’Fallon, Ill.

Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Martha Thierheimer, officiating. Burial will follow at O’Fallon City Cemetery, O’Fallon, Ill.
