Lynda Rose Leggett, age 89, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Lynda was born on January 11, 1936, in St. Louis, MO., a daughter of the late Walter and Mona (Hendrick) Wilkinson.
Lynda was a Korean War veteran who proudly served her country in the United States Navy. She met the love of her life at the Marine Corps Ball and on December 17, 1955, Lynda married James Leggett in Granite City, IL, and James passed away on January 6, 1982.
Lynda retired from Mittendorf Meat Company in St. Louis, MO, after many years of dedicated service. She was a member Central Christian Church in Granite City, IL. Lynda was also a former member of Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star and served on the board of Community Care Center.
Lynda enjoyed volunteering at many community events and charities throughout the Granite City area. She enjoyed making crafts, playing cards and going out to eat with her dear friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren. Lynda loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend who never met a stranger. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lynda was preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Fisher, George Wilkinson and Helen Gages.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Vicki (Alan) Turcott of Granite City, IL, Tammy (Scooter) VanSlyke of Orangefield, TX, Patti French of Granite City, IL and Jaimie Leggett of Fenton, MO, proud grandmother to Jeremy, Jim, Derek, Dustin Devyn, Nichol, Heather, Robyn and Cassidy, and great grandma and great-great grandma to many more, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, the memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, with Pastor Justin Yeary officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO., with military honors conducted by the United States Navy.
Memorial donations may be given to Loaves & Fishes of St. Louis, MO. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
