Michael W. Freeman, 77, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:38 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at his home.
He was born December 3, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late James and Gladys (Junior) Freeman.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann (McMillen) Freeman on March 20, 1971, in Granite City and she survives.
Michael retired in 2001 from Granite City Steel after 30 years of service as a steelworker. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loved his days of a good road trip. He was a supporter and attended Bikers for Babies every year and enjoyed attending Little Sturgis in Kentucky and his many trips through Arkansas, New Orleans and the Ozarks in Missouri.
In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, he is survived by a daughter, Dawn Schulte and partner, Jason Young of Waterloo, Illinois; grandson, Brendyn Daugherty of Granite City; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Schulte of Waterloo, Illinois and Juleana Schulte of Waterloo, Illinois; three sisters, Judy Baynes, Linda Crabtree and Rosa Engler; special niece and nephew and their children, Karlie and Adam Truckenmiller and Grace Ann and Ian Truckenmiller; other nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his biological mother, Lula May (Junior) Riddle and a sister, Myrtle May.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
Procession of family and friends will follow with the Patriot Guard leading. A service with full military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri with Pastor Mark Maynard officiating.
