Dorothy Steiner

Dorothy M. Steiner, 95, of Highland, died on April 23, 2025, in Highland. She was born on April 22, 1930, to William J. and Luella D. (Bohm) Bode in Edwardsville, Illinois and grew up on the family farm.Dorothy attended Goshen Country Grade School and graduated second in her class from Edwardsville High School in 1948. After graduation she worked as a secretary-bookkeeper. On June 10, 1951, Dorothy married Milton L. Steiner at Eden Church in Edwardsville. With her husband’s military career they lived in Monmouth, New Jersey; Edwardsville, Illinois; Florissant, Missouri; Champaign, Illinois; Carbondale, Illinois and then settling in Highland in 1965.For 18 years Dorothy worked in the Highland Community Schools Media Center. She delivered Meals-On-Wheels; was a girl scout leader and cub scout den mother and enjoyed her card club.After retiring in 1989, Dorothy and Milton enjoyed traveling to every state in the union as well as to Canada, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. She was a member of Highland Evangelical United Church of Christ and the Women’s Guild.

Family was very important to her. Dorothy was a caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.Preceding her in death was her husband, Milton L. Steiner on July 5, 2008; mother, Luella D. Bode on May 12, 1979; father, William J. Bode on August 24, 1989; brother, William Ray Bode on May 15, 2001; brother, Richard L. Bode on October 25, 2006; and daughter, Kay L. (Steiner) Kerin on January 6, 1987.Survivors are: Children – Mark A. Steiner, Tulsa, OK; Paul M. (Sig. Other – Ruth Ann Wise) Steiner, O.D., Greenville, IL; and Amy J.S. (Bryan) Daiber, O.D., Russellville, AR. Grandchildren – Stephanie M. (Jason) Hamisak, Columbia, MO; Meredith L. Morgan, Tulsa, OK; Andrea M. (Eks Wye) Pollock, Ft. Collins, OK; Kyle T. Steiner, Honolulu, HI; Laura K. Steiner, Baltimore, MD; Benjamin J. Steiner, Greenville, IL; Trent M. Daiber, O.D., Bentonville, AR; Allen S. (Jessica) Daiber, Memphis, TN; Elise C. Daiber, Memphis, TN; and Luke W. Daiber, Russellville, AR. Dorothy also is survived by 8 Great Grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, IL, with Rev. William E. Kapp, Pastor, Evangelical United Church of Christ, officiating.

Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL or The American Cancer Society.
