Carol Battoe

Carol Marie Battoe passed away Wednesday May 14, 2025, at the age of 91, at Evervella of Swansea, Swansea, IL. Carol Marie Battoe was born on March 1, 1934, to John and Thelma Vosmik in Belleville, IL.

Carol was known for her sharp mind, often being the person who could recall many historical events and always had interesting stories of how her life was when things happened. She held quite a few jobs in her life, but her favorite was her last one: Being the secretary for the assistant principal at Belleville East High School from 1966 to 1989. She had a deep love of history and education, and while she didn’t get to teach, this job gave her the opportunity to help high school students in a way.

She loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially for a party or a boat trip. She loved to read books, and absolutely loved trivia games, and Scrabble. When she was not reading, she was watching soap operas or game shows. Carol had a love of desserts, that was her favorite part of every meal. She also had many loving pets, she loved dogs and her most recent pet, a cat, named Pumpkin.

She married Robert G. Battoe on July 13, 1952, they had two children, Karlyn Parker and Joseph (Adrienne) Battoe. They spent many years loving each other until Robert passed away on January 5th, 1995.

Besides her children, Carol loved her grandchildren and great-grandson. Her grandchildren are Stephanie (Chris) Battoe-Wessel, Jennifer (Joseph), Parker- Miskell, Jonathon Battoe, and Whitney Battoe. She also was lucky enough to have a great grandson, Miles Wessel. She also is survived by her sister Judy (Don) Haida, who she was very close to and spent a lot of time with. She had many loving nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her first daughter-in-law, Deborah Battoe; and by her beloved dog, Charlie.

The family would like to thank the staff at Evervella of Swansea and BJC hospice for the compassionate care they provided her in her final year of life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Belleville Area Humane Society. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

According to Carol’s wishes, cremation services were held. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
