Charles Zittel

Charles W. Zittel, age 83, of Shiloh, Ill., born March 9, 1942 in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away June 13, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Charlie spent his youth in East St. Louis before he met and married his wife, Bern. He served in the Army National Guard and worked at Robert ‘Chick’ Fritz Distributing in sales and delivery.

He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and the St. Louis football Cardinals and listening to St. Louis Cardinals baseball on the radio in the garage. Charlie was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 592.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Eleanor (nee Gray) Zittel and brother Hank Zittel.

Surviving are his wife Bernadette Zittel; daughter Amy (Craig) Lombardi and son Matt (Hope) Zittel; grandchildren Colin, Jake, and Jack Lombardi and Sam and Madelyn Zittel; sister Mary El Roche; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and dear neighbors.
