CHARLESTON – Freshman 300m hurdler Gina Truax from East Alton Wood River has been setting and breaking school records all year in the hurdles and has set another school record today. Truax advanced to the finals of the Class 2A State Girls Track Meet and will run again on Saturday.
Truax has had a great freshman year and she went into the sectional with the top time in the 300m hurdles. In the sectional in Bethalto, she won and advanced to Charleston with a time of 46.9. Macie Rolf of Springfield Sacred Heart came in second with a time of 48.9.
On Friday she ran in the fourth heat of the prelims. She ran against Emmi Scales who has been here in Charleston before and has won a few championships while here. On Friday they took the first place finisher of each heat and the next five top times. Truax had the 8th fastest time and will run on Saturday.
” The first time at sectionals I didn’t believe I qualified but I placed 1st but I couldn’t comprehend how I made it here. It’s just like an amazing experience here in Charleston.” Truax said When asked about tomorrow she didn’t realize she advanced and when she did she was all smiles.
