SOUTH ROXANA – The South Roxana Fire Department responded to the 700 block of Herbert Ave for a fully involved structure fire Sunday afternoon.
When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed. A box-alarm was requested Hartford,Roxana, Wood River and Edwardsville Fire Departments responded to the scene. Alton Memorial Ambulance Service had an ambulance on standby.
Due to the severity of the fire, it took some time to get it under control. Wood River used their arial truck to help get the fire under control. No injuries were reported. The home appeared a total loss.
The family was not at home at the time of the fire. Red Cross was activated to help the family. Madison County Emergency Management also is helping the family.
It is unknown at this time what caused the fire. Multiple roads were closed while firefighters worked on the scene.
