ALTON – Early Thursday morning Alton Fire Department responded to the 900 block of Union Street for smoke coming from the structure.
When firefighters arrived on the scene the two-story house had smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters originally went inside the house to get the fire under control but firefighters started chasing the fire through the structure. The fire eventually went through the roof so firefighters backed out and attacked from the outside of the structure due to the dangers. The house appears to be a total loss.
A box alarm was struck and East Alton Fire Department responded to the scene with their aerial ladder. They used the master stream to get the fire under control. The house was vacant at the time of the fire.
No injuries were reported and its unknown at this time how the fire started.
