ALTON – Alton Fire Department responded to the 3100 block of Hillcrest Ave just after 5:00 a.m. Friday morning for a report of a structure fire.
When firefighters arrived on scene they encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the house. Firefighters quickly were able to get the fire under control but the house appeared a total loss. East Alton Fire Department also responded with manpower to help Alton out.

No injuries were reported. The Illinois State Fire Marshal was requested. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire.
Alton Police Department blocked off Hillcrest while the fire was going.
