Hazel L. Douglas, 96, formerly of Roxana, passed away at 1 a.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Cedar Ridge Healthcare Center in Lebanon.
Born Apr. 8, 1915 in Brownstown, Ill., she was a daughter of William Frank and Mary Alice Allen.
She married Clifton Sturgeon in Oct., 1939. He passed away in July of 1972. She then married Kenneth Douglas in September of 1973. He also preceded her in death.
She was very active in her church, the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River. A card player, her favorite games were bridge and pinochle.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn (Ray) Kolley of St. Louis; a son, Wayne (Barbara) Sturgeon of Belleville; 3 grandchildren, Wendy Sturgeon-Schubert and her husband Rick, Dana (Jon) Stetina, and Mike Kolley; 2 great grandchildren, Abby and Zach Stetina; a sister-in-law, Helen Voss of Alton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Earl Allen; and two sisters, Elizabeth Carter and Elsie Ellington.
Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 16 at the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River from 10 a.m. until services begin at 12 p.m. Rev. Pam Laing will officiate.
Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
