Lawrence E. Oberkfell, 62, of Maryville, Illinois passed away at 8:40 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. He was born August 23, 1958 in Highland, Illinois, a son of the late Kenneth M. and Racine (Harrison) Oberkfell.
He married Debra K. (Petroff) Oberkfell on November 15, 1980 at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and she survives.
He had worked various retail and restaurant facilities with many years of customer service. He was a faithful member of LifePoint Church in Collinsville. Lawrence had served his community with the Maryville Fire Department from 1979-1983, served as a Trustee in Maryville from 1989-1993 and volunteered with the Drost Park Khoury League, formerly Maryville Khoury League throughout the years in Maryville. He was an avid sports fan and a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs, Black Hawks and Bears and also loved cheering on the Collinsville Kahoks Basketball team. He cherished his family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and his friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his loving son, Christopher Kenneth Oberkfell of Maryville; six siblings and their spouses, Kenneth R. Oberkfell of Maryville, Marie and Clayton Dunn of Granite City, Jimmy Oberkfell of Santa Rosa, Florida, Chuck and Lauri Oberkfell of Collinsville, Charmaine and Mike Ricklein of Maryville and Randy and Venita Rider of Guston, Kentucky; two brothers-in-law and spouse, Chris Petroff Jr. of Maryville and Leonard and Rachel Petroff of Caseyville; a sister-in-law and spouse, Sharon and David Pryor of Conway, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Oberkfell and his grandparents, Lawrence and Marie Oberkfell and Raymond and Mary Harrison.
In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held at LifePoint Church, 1701 St. Louis Road in Collinsville on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Eddie Bradley officiating.
