Robert Suhre

Robert “Bob” Fredrick Suhre, age 88, of Highland, IL formerly of Collinsville, born March 17, 1933, in Hamel, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Cedarhurst of Highland.

Bob retired from McDonnell Douglas as a section manager in cost estimating.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War and was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Collinsville.  After retirement, he used his talents to build miniature gasoline engines that are displayed at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, AL.  He was a great storyteller and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nora (nee Stille) Suhre; and brother, Gerald Suhre.

He is survived by his wife, June (nee Giger) Suhre, whom he married January 2, 1954; two daughters:  Diane (Carl) Lentz of Carrollton, TX and Ellen (Russell) Glenn of Highland, IL; three grandchildren:  Erik (Brandi Smith) Lentz, Justin (Regan) Lentz and Emily Glenn; one great-grandson, Charlie; a brother, Raymond (Susan) Suhre of Troy, IL; a sister, Ruth Hosto of Alhambra, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, Maryville, IL.  Masks are required to be worn. Funeral service will follow starting at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Mindrup officiating.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Collinsville.

Memorials may be made in Bob’s honor to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, IL, and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
