Robert “Butch” Wojtowicz, 70, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:06 a.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at his home.
He was born January 23, 1951, in DuBois, Illinois, a son of the late John and Otillia (Hoffman) Wojtowicz. He married Barbara J. (Hensel) Wojtowicz on January 18, 2003, at the Affton Presbyterian Church in Affton, Missouri and she survives. He had worked for Illinois Terminal and Norfolk and Southern Railroad with 18 years of dedicated service as a railroad carman. He had also served as the director of Christmas in April for several years. The Granite City High School graduate was with the Class of 1969 and was a member of the Granite City Elks Lodge. He had a love for horses, enjoyed his early days of playing baseball, and loved a day of fishing. Butch will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Kathy Wojtowicz of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Allan Cochran of Glen Carbon; four grandchildren, Ann Wojtowicz, Jon Wojtowicz, Delaney Cochran, and Harper Cochran; two great-grandchildren, Trevor Rivenburgh and Carson Miller; a sister and brother-in-law, Marcella and Orland Haun of Marion; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin brothers, Herman and Henry Wojtowicz.
In celebration of his life, a memorial gathering will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be accepted at the funeral home. www.irwinchapel.com
