Blood Drive And Bone Marrow Registry Drive Tomorrow For Granite City Teen

GRANITE CITY – The Red Cross is teaming up with the family of Zion Ratchford to host a blood drive and Bone Marrow Registry Drive in his honor Saturday, June 25 from 10 am to 3 p.m. at St Elizabeth Church – Cafeteria, 2300 Pontoon Road, in Granite City.

Granite City teen Zion Ratchford was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in October of 2019. Lymphoblastic Leukemia is an aggressive blood cancer that interferes with the production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Zion relies heavily on healthy donor blood and platelets as part of his treatment. Zion’s only hope for a cure is a blood stem cell transplant.

No registration required for the bone marrow donor registry event but an appointment for the blood drive is strongly recommended.

For the Bone Marrow Drive, complete a brief form, and swab the inside of your cheek. Donors must be healthy and between the ages of 18-40 years old.

For appointment for the blood drive, you can call 1-800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org and enter ZionR.
