Fatal Fire At East Alton Storage Unit

EAST ALTON – One person died in an early morning storage unit fire in East Alton.

East Alton along with several area fire departments battled a storage unit fire in the 600 block of West Saint Louis Ave in East Alton around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found several storage units on fire. Firefighters were able to get it under control pretty quickly before more damage could be done. Due to the large fire a Box-Alarm was struck. Wood River, Roxana, Alton, and Rosewood Heights responded to the scene. Bethalto responded to man East Alton station. Madison County Emergency Managment also was on scene with the command post.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. This is an open investigation.
