ALTON – An Alton man was charged on Wednesday with aggravated arson which is a class x felony. He was identified as Schon D Widman of the 3100 block of Hawthorne Blvd Alton.
According to documents, Widman set fire to his father’s home. A witness reported seeing Widman shortly before the fire was ignited carrying a gas can. Before the fire he was involved in a verbal and physical dispute with family members.
On New Year’s Day at 3:14 p.m., the Alton Police Department and Alton Fire Department were contacted due to a structure fire at 3116 Hawthorne Blvd., Alton, Illinois.
Alton Police Officers and members of the Alton Fire Department immediately responded to the scene. Alton Fire Department members worked to control the fully engulfed residence.Â
The investigation was conducted by the Alton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Alton Fire Department.
