Laura Ann Duckworth, 57, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 1:48 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026, at her home. She was born on March 30, 1968, in Lutesville, Missouri, the beloved daughter of the late Otis and Shirley (Goza) Hoover.
On May 14, 1991, Laura married Charles “Chuck” Duckworth Sr. at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Granite City. Together they shared a life grounded in faith, service, and love until Chuck’s passing on September 21, 2020.
Laura was a devoted and faithful member of Unity Baptist Church in Granite City, where her servant’s heart was evident in all she did. Alongside her late husband, she served as a youth leader, co-led the Bread of Life Ministry for many years, and was actively involved in Vacation Bible School. She served with dedication as chairwoman of both the Funeral Luncheon Committee and the Hospitality Committee, quietly ensuring that others felt comforted, welcomed, and cared for during life’s most tender moments.
Her compassion reached far beyond the church. Laura was a coach and passionate supporter of Special Olympics, a Cub Scout den and pack leader, and a National Guard Family Readiness Group liaison. She had a rare gift for nurturing—through her love of gardening, her joy in cooking for others, and her unwavering presence for family, friends, and anyone in need.
Laura loved cardinals and cherished their special meaning, believing that when a cardinal appears, it is a gentle reminder that our loved one are always nearby.
Family and faith were the foundation of Laura’s life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a loyal friend, and a woman whose kindness left a lasting imprint on every life she touched.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Jessica Duckworth and David Duckworth; her cherished grandson, Michael Duckworth; her brother, Scott Hoover and his girlfriend, Crystal Scoggins; her sister-in-law, Leesa Boyer, all of Granite City; as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Laura was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Patrick Boyer and William D. Duckworth Jr.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held at Unity Baptist Church, 2500 St. Clair Avenue, Granite City, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 noon, with Pastor Jarad Corzine officiating.
Memorials may be made to Unity Baptist Church to support the Funeral Luncheon Committee, a ministry especially close to Laura’s heart. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.irwinchapel.com.
