GRANITE CITY – Madison County authorities recently charged a local man with firing an illegally possessed weapon in a Granite City neighborhood.
Robert L. Fayne, 44, of East St. Louis, was charged on Feb. 13, 2026 with one count each of felon in possession of a weapon (a Class 2 felony) and reckless discharge of a firearm (a Class 4 felony).
Fayne allegedly knowingly discharged a firearm on a residential street in a reckless manner on Jan. 1, 2026, endangering the bodily safety of residents in the 2500 block of Jerden Avenue in Granite City.
Fayne’s possession of the weapon, a Glock 26 Gen 4 9mm handgun, was reportedly unlawful given his prior conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm in a felony case from 2020 filed in St. Clair County.
A petition to deny Fayne’s pretrial release from custody in this case was filed by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. According to the petition, officers responded to a report of shots fired on Jan. 1, 2026 and observed three individuals walking into a nearby residence.
“An unidentified neighbor yelled at officers that those three individuals were responsible for the shots fired,” the petition states. Fayne was then arrested and a search warrant was executed at the home, where officers reportedly recovered two firearms; the petition adds that Fayne “admitted to discharging one of the firearms.”
The Granite City Police Department presented the latest case against Fayne, who was ordered remanded to jail for his initial court appearance in this case.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
