Jimmy Rowland

Jimmy “Jim” Dale Rowland, 83, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Wed. Feb. 25, 2026 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born June 2, 1942 in Kennett, MO to the late Charles and Grace (Scott) Rowland.

On June 2, 1984, he and Karen Janette Kapper were married in Arkansas. She survives.

Jim was a proud U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and retired from the military as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 after 14 years of service. He then owned and operated his own trucking service. Jim was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Karen, he is survived by a daughter, Tina (Cory) Gerbitz of O’Fallon, MO, a son, Jimmy Dale (Lolita) Rowland Jr., 2 grandchildren, Courtney (John) Mittrucker and Kyle Jones, a great-grandson, Jaxson Mittrucker and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Lois Baker, Clara Burress, Grace Lee Westerfield, Shirley Culver and Norma Gilmore and 2 brothers, Junior Rowland and Billy Rowland.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wed. March 4, 2026 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Alfred Tumwesigye as Celebrant.  Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Olney, IL at a later date.

Memorials may be made to VITAS Hospice.
