BELLEVILLE – Detectives investigating a homicide at a Belleville home have filed a murder charge against a 20-year-old Belleville man, police said.
On March 16, 2026, detectives with the Belleville Police Department presented information related to the March 15, 2026, homicide that occurred at the residence of a 78-year-old man in the 200 block of Union Avenue in Belleville.
Following a review of the evidence, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a charge of murder, a Class M felony, against Armani E. Floyd, 20, of Belleville.
Floyd is being held at the St. Louis City Justice Center and is awaiting extradition to the St. Clair County Jail, police said.
Belleville Police Department officers were sent to the scene on Union Avenue at about 11:11 a.m. on March 15, 2026, where they located the man inside the residence.
“Officers and EMS attempted to render first aid; however, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the Belleville Police Department said.
“A short time later, a known person of interest was located and taken into custody in St. Louis by Belleville detectives and St. Louis City officers,” the department said.
“It is tragic that these incidents occurred,” the Belleville Police Department said. “On Union Avenue, the victim was helping a family member, providing him shelter, and the suspect brutally murdered him. It is unthinkable.”
Floyd is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
