EDWARDSVILLE – Timothy J. Dubois of Shobonier was found guilty Thursday, May 7, 2026, on all 10 counts in a kidnapping and aggravated criminal sexual assault case stemming from a Nov. 11, 2022, incident in Collinsville.
When the verdict was read, Dubois showed no emotion about it.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office said on Thursday that Dubois faces up to 80 years in prison when he is sentenced.
The trial began with the victim’s testimony, in which she gave what was described as a detailed and emotional account of the events. Multiple law enforcement officers and investigators also testified.
The crime occurred when a woman was on her way to work in Collinsville and stopped at Starbucks, 1077 Collinsville Crossing Blvd., to pick up a mobile order. While she waited in the parking lot, a man entered her passenger side, armed with a large knife, and gave her orders to drive.
The woman, “in great fear of being raped or killed,” drove after being instructed to get onto the highway, according to the case information. She noticed the Troy exit, where the suspect ordered her to leave the highway.
The suspect then instructed her to drive down an alley to a gravel lot, where she said he told her to stop, climbed on top of her, opened a condom, and sexually assaulted her. After the assault, she said the suspect ordered her into the passenger seat and drove back toward the Collinsville Crossing area, parking near Wendy’s. She said he placed a jacket over his head and ran off.
Collinsville Police Detective Brad Akers testified that he responded to the location and, while canvassing the area, discovered a used condom in a gravel lot. Another key piece of evidence came from a forensic scientist, the final witness on Wednesday, who testified that DNA recovered from both the condom wrapper in the vehicle and the used condom matched Dubois.
Authorities have stated the incident appeared to have been random and that the victim did not know Dubois.
