TROY – The Tri-Township Public Library District successfully launched its 2026 Summer Reading Challenge this past Saturday, May 23, with a morning of prehistoric excitement at Tri-Township Park. Families from across the community gathered at Pavilion #10 to “Unearth a Story,” marking the official start of what promises to be the library’s most adventurous season yet.
The park was transformed into a prehistoric playground, featuring bounce houses, an interactive bubble station, and local vendors who helped make the morning a true community celebration. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the appearance of several “special dino guests,” who delighted children and adults alike with their roars and roaming adventures throughout the park.
“We were thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout to kick off our Summer Reading Challenge,” said Tori Potter, Programming Coordinator for the Tri-Township Public Library District. “Seeing the community come together, and spotting a few prehistoric guests roaming the park, made for an unforgettable start. The energy was incredible, and we hope it continues as we dive into all the programs we have planned for the summer.”
Community Support
The success of this year’s kickoff was made possible through the generous support of our sponsors. We would like to extend a special thank you to: The Friends of the Library, Allison’s Comfort Shoes, Country Financial – Stephen Budnicki, 1st MidAmerica Credit Union, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Illinois, Troy Taco Bell, and RP Coatings.
The Adventure Continues All Summer Long
While the kickoff event has concluded, the Summer Reading Challenge is just getting started. The library encourages residents of all ages to continue logging their reading to earn badges, track progress, and win prizes all summer long.
