Wayne H. Schone, 40, of the 2900 block of West 20th Street in Granite City, was charged on May 28, 2026 with a Class 2 felony count of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender, his second or subsequent such offense.

On May 27, 2026, Schone allegedly failed to register his address with the Granite City Police Department as a sex offender, in violation of the Sex Offender Registration Act. As of this writing, Schone’s name still does not appear listed in the Sex Offender Registry from the Illinois State Police.

Schone had previously been convicted in 2023 of failing to register as a sex offender in St. Clair County and in four prior Madison County cases, including two from 2007, one from 2010, and one from 2018, according to charging documents.

The Granite City Police Department presented the latest case against Schone, who was ordered released from custody pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
