Tigers Girls Soccer Fourth In IHSA 3A State Tournament After 1-0 Loss To Gurnee Warren

NAPERVILLE – A late first-half goal by Gurnee Warren was the only one of the match as the Blue Devils defeated Edwardsville 1-0 in the IHSA Class 3A third-place match in the state finals Saturday, June 6, 2026, at North Central College in Naperville, in the far suburbs of Chicago.

Both the Tigers and Warren ended the season at 16-5-2 after losing their semifinal matches the night before. Edwardsville lost to Winnetka New Trier 2-1 after extra time, and the Blue Devils lost to Naperville Central 5-0.

The only goal of the game came in the 38th minute, when Elise Weidemann headed home Michaela Wilkinson’s corner kick into the back of the net to give Warren a 1-0 lead. The Tigers went for the equalizer in the second half and had several opportunities, but couldn’t solve the Blue Devils’ goalkeeper as Warren took third place by the 1-0 score.

In the state final, New Trier won over Central 2-1 to take the Class 3A championship.

Edwardsville’s girls end their season 16-5-2 overall.
