Robert “Bob” E. Hoffman, 87, of Collinsville, Illinois, and formerly of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bob was born on November 15, 1938, in Granite City, Illinois, the son of the late John Hoffman and Josephine (Westfall) Anderson. Raised from an early age at the Oddfellows Children’s Home in Lincoln, Illinois, Bob carried with him many cherished memories from his childhood and developed the resilience, compassion, and strong work ethic that would define the man he became.
On April 1, 1967, Bob married Lucy J. Thomason-Householder in Granite City. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion to family. Lucy preceded him in death on November 30, 2011, but the love they shared remained a guiding presence throughout Bob’s life.
A faithful member of City Temple in Granite City, Bob lived his life with quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering faith. He retired from Olin Corporation in East Alton after many years of dedicated service as a material handler, earning the respect of his coworkers through his dependability and tireless work ethic.
Bob found joy in life’s simple blessings. He loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and appreciating the beauty of nature. He was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals fan through every season—celebrating the victories and standing by his team through the losses. Watching Cardinals baseball was one of his favorite pastimes, and he rarely missed a game.
Above all else, Bob treasured his family. Whether gathered around the dinner table, sharing stories, or simply enjoying one another’s company, his happiest moments were those spent with the people he loved most. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making others feel welcomed and valued. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and generous heart touched countless lives.
He will be remembered as a hardworking and devoted family man whose greatest legacy is the love, guidance, and kindness he gave so freely to others. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Bob was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Householder and Kenny Householder; a great-grandson, Jaxen Halfhill; and his siblings, Alberta Rhymer, Ethel Allison, Virginia Thomason, Charles Hoffman, Carol Champion, Barbara Zeman, and William Hoffman.
He is survived by his loving children, James (Danielle) Hoffman of Granite City, Illinois; Judy (Phil) Adams of Collinsville, Illinois; Ricky (Helen) Householder, Robert (Debbie) Householder, Muriel Householder-Gossard, and Mary Obermeier, all of Granite City, Illinois; Cindy (Dr. R.E.) Musser of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and Becky Endicott of Iuka, Illinois. He is also survived by his dear brother, John (Laura) Hoffman of Des Moines, Iowa; many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A visitation celebrating Bob’s life will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026, at City Temple in Granite City, Illinois. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sam Hart officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to City Temple and will be accepted at the church.
In honor of Bob’s lifelong devotion to the St. Louis Cardinals, family and friends are invited to wear their favorite Cardinals attire as they gather to celebrate a life well lived.
