Hot, Humid Thursday Brings Heat Index Up to 107 and Late Storm Chances

Thursday starts warm and sticky with mostly sunny skies and temperatures already in the mid-70s. It will feel more like the upper 80s early, so the day wastes no time getting uncomfortable.

By afternoon, the heat ramps up fast. The high reaches 94, and it may feel as hot as 107 at times. Hazy sunshine will mix with building clouds before a heavy thunderstorm develops later in the day. Rain chances climb to 92%, with south winds around 7 mph and gusts up to 15 mph.

Into the evening, any storm activity should begin to wind down, but the air will stay muggy. Skies turn mainly clear overnight, with a warm low around 76. A stray shower cannot be ruled out early in the night, though most areas should stay dry.

An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Friday night. Heat index values could reach 106, so this is a good day to take breaks, drink plenty of water and avoid spending too much time outside during peak heat.

The allergy index is moderate today. Grass is the main allergen, while tree pollen is low and mold and ragweed remain low.

Friday brings another hot and humid day, with a high near 93 and a low around 74. Expect more clouds than sun and the chance for an afternoon thunderstorm.
