ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Police said a 19-year-old man died and another 19-year-old was critically injured after a shooting in the Lindenwood Park neighborhood early July 16, and a 39-year-old man has been charged in the case.
St. Louis District 2 officers were called just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026, after two adult males with gunshot wounds were dropped off at an area hospital, according to an update released July 17, 2026. The vehicle that dropped them off fled, police said.
A preliminary investigation determined the shooting may have occurred in the 6500 block of Scanlan Avenue in Lindenwood Park. One of the men, 19, died from his injuries at the hospital. The other, also 19, was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.

Homicide detectives took over the investigation.
While investigating on Scanlan Avenue, officers found a vehicle that had been broken into and rummaged through, police said. Authorities said 39-year-old Timothy Kemper then exited one of the residences, admitted involvement in the incident and surrendered to officers.
After an in-custody interview, homicide detectives arrested Kemper and presented their findings to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, which issued charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and three counts of armed criminal action, according to police.
Police said the investigation into the events leading up to the shooting remains ongoing.
