GRANITE CITY – A sex offender from Granite City faces new charges after allegedly failing to register and injuring a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy while resisting arrest.
53-year-old Frank A. Vasques, listed as homeless out of Granite City, was charged on Oct. 16, 2026, with one count each of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender (a Class 2 felony) and resisting or obstructing a peace officer (a Class 4 felony).
Vasques was charged one day after he allegedly failed to register on a quarterly basis with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office after establishing a residence in Madison County. Described in charging documents as a “sexual predator,” he had previously been convicted of the same offense in 2024, also in Madison County.
On the same day he reportedly failed to register, Vasques is also accused of resisting arrest by a Madison County Sheriff’s deputy by pulling away from the officer and causing both parties to fall to the ground, causing an injury to the deputy.
The Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry currently lists Vasques as “non-compliant,” having last registered on June 29, 2026, with an address in the 3100 block of Chain of Rocks Road in Granite City.
The registry notes Vasques had previously been convicted in St. Clair County of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim who was 13 to 16 years old at the time of the offense, while Vasques was 26 years of age. The registry also lists several of his prior convictions for failing to report multiple changes of address, each from St. Clair County.
Vasques was ordered released from custody pending trial in this case under certain conditions. Under the conditions of his pretrial release, Vasques has been ordered to register with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office every 90 days or as legally required should his address change. He has also been ordered not to possess any firearms while on pretrial release.
The latest case against Vasques was presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
