GRANITE CITY – A 30-year-old from Granite City accused of sending and requesting explicit photos while messaging a 13-year-old child over Snapchat is now in custody.
Douglas J. Britt, 30, of the 1700 block of Ferguson Avenue in Granite City, was charged on July 20, 2026 with one count of child sexual abuse material (a Class 1 felony), grooming (a Class 4 felony), sexual exploitation of a child (a Class A misdemeanor) and unlawful possession of a firearm (a Class 3 felony).
From June 4 to June 8, 2026, Britt allegedly sent an explicit photo of himself to a 13-year-old child via Snapchat and solicited a sexually explicit photo from the same victim. He is additionally accused of possessing a Remington 12 gauge shotgun without a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Britt’s pretrial release from custody in this case, which notes that “more than 1,000 messages were recovered” between Britt and the child. Explicit photos of Britt which he reportedly sent to the victim were included in the messages, and the victim told authorities Britt had requested explicit photos of her.
The East Alton Police Department presented the case against Britt, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
