Shirley Manning

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, and aunt. Shirley was born on September 9, 1929, to Robert L. and Amelia E., nee Dinges, Daesch. She and her twin sister, Sharon, were raised in Smithton, IL. Shirley married Paul Dean Manning on May 6, 1950, and raised four boys together. She was active at the Shiloh United Methodist Church where she and her husband served as sponsors for the youth group, always providing a safe and warm home to the youth of the church. She was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America, where she served as a den mom for many years and on many camping trips. Shirley was also active in the Shiloh Valley Township Democratic Club for many years. Shirley retired from the Belleville Driver’s License Facility where she was the first female examiner. She had the personal pleasure of riding with all eight of her grandchildren before they were allowed to take their driving tests.

She enjoyed countless family vacations at the lake, at the family farm, at the beach, and family reunions in Shiloh and in Branson, Missouri; where she was always ready to feed the whole crew. Many will remember her homemade popcorn balls that she handed out every year on Halloween, or the enormous variety of cookies and treats that filled her table each Christmas.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, her sons, Michael (died in infancy) and Richard, her twin sister, Sharon and her beloved daughter-in-law Denise (wife of Daniel).
