ALTON – A fully involved shed fire in the 1200 block of Rodemeyer Street in Alton caused serious damage to a shed structure around noon on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, but firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to a nearby house with a quick attack, Alton Fire Department Capt. Tom Davison said.
When crews arrived, the shed was fully involved, and flames were impinging on the house, Davison said. Firefighters placed a hose line between the shed and the home, which he said kept the house from catching fire.
“The crew did an excellent job overall and kept the house from catching fire, causing only a small amount of damage to the house,” Davison said.
The house sustained a small amount of damage from flame impingement, and firefighters tore off some siding during their work, Davison said.
Davison said all occupants were out safely when firefighters arrived.
Once the fire was knocked down, firefighters overhauled and checked the scene before clearing the location, Davison said. Crews were on scene for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, he said.
The cause of the fire had not yet been determined, Davison said, adding that there was nothing suspicious.
