BELLEVILLE — A 23-year-old man wanted in Dallas County, Texas, on active felony arrest warrants in two separate murder cases was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at his residence in Belleville by the U.S. Marshals Service Southern District of Illinois Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Eric Wayne Hubert was taken into custody without incident and transported to the St. Clair County Jail for booking, pending extradition to Texas, officials said. The warrants stem from two shooting incidents in Dallas County.
Hubert was charged in September 2024 in Dallas County with murder after an individual died following a firearm shooting. He was released on bond. According to court documents, Hubert allegedly removed his ankle monitor in April 2026 in violation of his bond conditions.
Hubert is also suspected of engaging in a deadly shooting on June 9 on North Masters Drive in Dallas. During that incident, Hubert and two other masked individuals allegedly shot semi-automatic rifles at numerous people in front of a store, killing one individual. Hubert then fled Texas to Illinois, officials said.
“This case drives home two hard truths. First, soft-on-crime bail laws that turn murder defendants loose so they can kill again and run to other states can only be described as insane. They are an invitation to continued violence,” United States Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft said. “Second, the men and women of the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force did exceptional work locating Eric Hubert in Belleville and taking him into custody without a single shot fired. I give my strongest thanks to U.S. Marshal Dave Davis and his team, who confront incredible danger every single day. Southern Illinois is fortunate to be served by these law enforcement professionals.”
U.S. Marshal David C. Davis said the arrest involved coordination between marshals in Illinois and Texas.
“This arrest was a joint effort between the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Southern District of Illinois and the Northern District of Texas,” Davis said. “The USMS and its 94 districts continue to apprehend the most violent offenders, including those wanted for homicide, drug offenses, and weapons charges. This operation highlights the vast reach and capabilities of our dedicated task forces around the country.”
The charges against the defendant are allegations. An indictment is merely a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, defendants are presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
