ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO. — The St. Louis County Police Department on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, released a Critical Incident Briefing video for a July 5, 2026, officer-involved shooting in North County that left two juveniles with gunshot injuries after officers responded to reports of a large disturbance involving teenagers.
The Critical Incident
The shooting occurred near Bellefontaine Road and Larimore Road after officers from the North County Precinct responded at about 10:15 p.m. on July 5, 2026, to a call for service for a disturbance at a residence initially reported in the 1700 block of Prendergast Lane. Police later said the investigation confirmed the gathering was hosted at a home in the 11000 block of Prendergast Lane and involved between 150 and 200 teenagers.
Police said officers received reports of a large gathering involving more than 100 juveniles attending a pool party where fireworks were being set off, and a disturbance was occurring. As officers worked to disperse the crowd, many juveniles left the area on foot. An officer in need of aid call was dispatched as callers reported large numbers of juveniles running around the neighborhood and through private property.
Between 8:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Communications received more than 25 911 calls for the peace disturbance and subsequent officer-involved shooting, police said.
Neighbors reported loud disturbances, fights, and fireworks on the property or nearby. Police said that when officers responded to clear the area, many subjects ran through backyards and across private property, prompting more calls to 911. Other callers reported witnessing individuals with weapons.
Police said crowds later moved to the intersection of Bellefontaine Road and Larimore Road, where large groups of teens gathered and were discharging and throwing fireworks near police vehicles. While officers worked to clear the area, a St. Louis County police officer perceived a threat from a vehicle and fired his service weapon at the vehicle, according to previously released information.
A male and a female in the vehicle were struck by gunfire. A third female in the vehicle suffered a minor injury caused by broken glass. All three were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries police described as non-life-threatening.
In an update released July 6, police said the two juveniles injured by gunfire were listed in stable condition. The third juvenile was treated and released.
Nine juveniles were taken into custody at the Bellefontaine Road and Larimore Road officer-involved shooting scene. Police later said all juveniles taken into custody were released, and no charges were issued.
No officers were physically injured during the incident.
The officer involved is 33 years old and has six years of law enforcement experience, police said.
The St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is investigating. Police said the investigation remains active and preliminary details may change as it progresses.
