Update: Immobilized Vehicle Struck In Deadly Illinois 255 Collision

ROXANA — A driver was killed Thursday morning, Aug. 20, 2026, in a two-unit crash on Illinois 255 northbound at Wagon Wheel Road in Roxana after the vehicle became immobilized in a traffic lane and was struck by another vehicle, Illinois State Police said.

Illinois State Police Troop 8 responded to the crash in Madison County at approximately 5:27 a.m. Aug. 20, 2026. A preliminary investigation indicated Unit 1 was traveling northbound and approaching Wagon Wheel Road when it became immobilized in the lane of traffic and was struck by Unit 2.

State Police said the driver of Unit 1 was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of Unit 2 reported no injuries.

A secondary crash occurred at the same location on the southbound side of Illinois 255. Two drivers in the secondary crash were transported to area hospitals with injuries, state police said.

Traffic was shut down in both directions. The southbound lanes reopened at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, and the northbound lanes reopened at approximately 9:45 a.m.
