ALTON — Club Car Wash has begun demolition at the former Auto Butler site on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton, where it plans to build a new car wash facility with the latest technology after Auto Butler closed permanently following 20 years in business.
Auto Butler owners Lisa Heims-Stout and Gary Stout retired and Club Car Wash purchased the property, Lisa Heims-Stout said Saturday, June 20, 2026. She said Club Car Wash purchased the property where Auto Butler had operated, but not the business, and that the closure marked the end of the full-service portion of the car wash.
Demolition work is underway at the old Auto Butler site. Hansen Trucking is hauling away some of the material after the demolition process. Coil is the contractor for construction of the new Club Car Wash in Alton. Both Club Car Wash and Coil have corporate offices in Columbia, Missouri.
Alton Mayor David Goins said he was sad to see Auto Butler close and thankful for its years of service to the community, including service to customers who came across the bridge to have cars washed. He said he was glad Club Car Wash will occupy the space rather than have it sit vacant.
“That is progress,” Mayor Goins said of the demolition and plans for the new facility.
Goins said demolition is coming along and he has seen Club Car Wash locations in St. Louis. A date for Club Car Wash opening has not yet been set, Mayor Goins said.
“They are very nice with modern technology,” he said, adding that he was excited the space would be occupied by Club Car Wash.
Club Car Wash was founded in 2006 in Columbia, Missouri, as Tiger Express Car Wash, a family-owned business. It opened a second location in 2007 and expanded with a third Columbia location in 2012 before entering the St. Louis market in 2014.
The company added seven Missouri locations in 2018 and rebranded to Club Car Wash in 2019, when it entered Kansas and Illinois, expanded operations in three states and partnered with Wildcat Capital. Travis Kelce joined the team as an investor in 2020, the same year the company entered Iowa and expanded operations to four states.
Club Car Wash became the official car wash of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021, then partnered with Children’s Miracle Network and started $12 Tuesday. The company entered Nebraska that year and expanded operations to five states.
In 2022, Club Car Wash partnered with Rapid Express Car Wash, acquired Speedy Splash and 11 new locations, entered Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Wisconsin, expanded to nine states and opened its 100th location. The company entered Tennessee in 2023, expanded to 10 states and opened its 130th location.
Club Car Wash entered Colorado and Minnesota in 2024, expanded to 12 states and opened its 200th location. In 2025, the company launched a mobile app, entered Mississippi, expanded operations in 13 states, and opened its 250th location. In 2026, it continued its partnership with Children’s Miracle Network and $14 Tuesday and entered the Chicago market.
