Marquette Catholic blanked Jacksonville 3-0 in a match on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026, in Alton.

Backline of Bober, Fischer, Anderson and Brown also had an outstanding match.

TRIAD 10, MT. VERNON 0: Colby Wheat led the way for Triad with a double brace (four goals), while Colby Crouch had a brace (two goals), and Parker Benson, Joey Bohnak, Parker Kelly, and Aiden Wagner also scored in the Knights’ rout of Mt. Vernon at Knights Field.

Damian Jordan only needed to make one save in goal to record the clean sheet for Triad, who’s now 2-0-0, while the Rams slip to 0-2-0.

In two other results from Wednesday evening, Alton won its season opener over Civic Memorial 2-0, and Columbia nipped Springfield 1-0.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

COLUMBIA 25, 25, MARQUETTE CATHOLIC VARSITY 16, 8

Marquette Catholic’s volleyball program played Columbia High School, the 2025 2A state champs, at Columbia on Wednesday night. The Explorers’ freshmen lost in 2 sets, 2-21, 9-21. Marquette’s JV lost in three sets, and the varsity lost in two sets (25-16, 25-8).

Marquette Catholic head coach Emma Deist said Sanaa Young, Alex Stephan, and Stella Frost were all defensive standouts, holding their own against Columbia’s excellent front line. Ari Davenport also saved several plays and kept rallies going for a long time, she said.

“Reese Becthold and Mia Moore connected some great hits in the front row,” Coach Deist said.

OTHER GIRLS VOLLEYBALL RESULTS

METRO EAST LUTHERAN EDGES ALTON 25-18, 25-22

In Wednesday evening’s results from girls volleyball, Metro-East Lutheran won its first match of the year, sweeping Alton 25-18, 25-22.

In other action, Red Bud won at Triad 25-18, 26-24, Waterloo needed all three sets to upend Collinsville 25-17, 20-25, 25-13, Columbia turned back Marquette Catholic 25-18, 25-8, it was Franklin South County taking a three-set match over Piasa Southwestern 24-26, 25-20. 25-16, Breese Mater Dei Catholic won over Freeburg 25-18, 25-9.

JERSEY ATHLETICS ROUNDUP

Jersey Community Middle School baseball blanked East Alton 15-0 in a home game.

Layne Goetten led the offense with three hits, while Jaxton Valstad and Miles Vahle combined on the mound to allow just one hit. With the win, the Panthers improve to 5-2 on the season.
