EDWARDSVILLE – SIUE freshman women’s tennis player Valeriia Oleksyn (Lviv, Ukraine) has been named the Prairie Farms Cougar of the Week after an undefeated performance at the Lindenwood Invite this past weekend.
Oleksyn posted a perfect 4-0 record, winning two games in both singles and doubles competitions. She opened the tournament with a 6-1, 7-6 (4-0) victory over Lindenwood’s Fabiana Labrador before rallying to defeat WashU’s Leila Epstein, 5-7, 6-3, 11-9. In doubles play, Oleksyn teamed with Emma Baker for two dominant wins. The pair earned a 6-2 victory over WashU and later followed with a 6-0 shutout of Lindenwood.
Oleksyn has improved to 5-0 in singles and 3-1 in doubles matches on the season.
