Lyle E. Weems, age 93, of Breese, and formerly of Salem, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Cedarhurst of Breese. He was born April 6, 1933, in Iuka, a son of the late Dorvin and Eva (nee Smith) Weems.
Lyle married Jean Weems (nee Meador) on April 7, 1950, and she preceded him in death on December 12, 1988. He married Carol Weems (nee Maue) on May 29, 1990, in Tennessee and she survives in Breese. Additionally, Lyle is survived by his daughter, Jana (Steve) Fulton of Carlyle; step-children, Michael (Lori) Dall of Aviston, DeAnn (Robert) Rizzi, Jr. of Troy, and Stephanie (Shawn) McSparin of St. Jacob; grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Weems, Anne (Ryan) Hilmes, Christopher (Hank Walker) Dall, Nicholas (fiancée, Kelsey Probst) Dall, Kennedy Prange, and Grant Prange; step-granddaughter, Sharona (Waylon) Kleiboeker; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Kaden, and Grayson Hilmes, Hosea and Hope Weems, and Bren and Ethan Kleiboeker; brother, Delmar Weems of Salem; sister-in-law, Fran (Bob) Wellinghoff of Breese; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Jean, Lyle was preceded in death by his son, Michael E. (Sharon) Weems; parents-in-law, Ellis and Alice (nee Brasel) Meador, and George and Caroline (nee Langhauser) Maue; and brother-in-law, Carl Maue.
Lyle was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He went on to become an Illinois State Police Trooper, retiring with over 25 years out of District 12. He also helped with the family farm for many years. Lyle was a member of the Beckemeyer American Legion Post 1227 and former member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Lyle’s enjoyed snow birding to McAllen, TX from September until April. His hobbies included woodworking, golfing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with family.
A graveside service will be held Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Iuka Cemetery in Iuka with full military honors accorded.
Memorials in honor of Lyle may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be received by mail at Moss Funeral Home, 535 N. 5th Street, Breese, IL 62230, who is serving the family.
