EDWARDSVILLE – Quarterback Dean Williams threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as Edwardsville won its second straight Southwestern Conference shutout win defeating Granite City 48-0 in a game played Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
This was the first time the Warriors and Tigers had met each other in a football game since Sept. 15, 2017, at Edwardsville, and the second game for Granite in the league since rejoining the SWC this season.
Cohen Followell ran nine yards for the Tigers’ opening score on their third possession to give Edwardsville an early 7-0 lead, then Williams ran in from eight yards out to make it 13-0. After a 34-yard field goal by Lucas Garmann, Williams threw 15 yards to Reed Rusick and four yards to Braylon Hill-Lomax to give the Tigers a 29-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Jason Palermo went in from a yard out, to make it 36-0. Williams hit Followell from four yards out, and Jekhi Nicholson finished off the final drive in which he carried seven straight times from a yard away to make the final score 48-9,
The Tigers are now 2-3 on the season, while the Warriors go to 0-5.
