ALTON/GODFREY — An 18-year-old Alton man charged with attempted first-degree murder was arrested Sept. 24, 2026, in connection with an August shooting that left a victim seriously injured, according to the Alton Police Department.
Alton Police, assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, arrested Tylon L. Lunsford in the 1200 block of Laurel Avenue in Godfrey.
The charges stem from a shooting at approximately 1:52 p.m. Aug. 20, 2026, in the 800 block of East Sixth Street in Alton. The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to a St. Louis-area hospital for further medical treatment.
On August 27, 2026, the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office, led by Tom Haine, charged Lunsford with the following offenses:
• Count I: Attempted First-Degree Murder
• Count II: Aggravated Battery with a Firearm
• Count III: Aggravated Unlawful Possession of Weapons.
Lunsford has been ordered to remain in custody at the Madison County Jail pending a detention hearing.
He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
