Granite City Man Charged With Stealing From Elderly Victim

GRANITE CITY – A Granite City man faces financial exploitation charges in Madison County after allegedly stealing over $2,000 from an elderly individual earlier this year.

William C. Spicer III, 19, of Granite City, was charged on Oct. 1, 2026 with two counts of unlawful financial exploitation of an elderly person and one count of theft of property over $500, each Class 3 felonies.

From July 19-25, 2026, Spicer is accused of committing a series of acts to obtain control over $2,200 in U.S. currency which was property of a victim who was over 60 years of age at the time of the offense.

Charging documents state Spicer knowingly obtained and illegally used the assets or resources of the elderly victim, with whom Spircer reportedly stood in a position of trust and confidence.

The Granite City Police Department presented the case against Spicer, who was released pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
