Jean J. Schwarzkopf, 99, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 2:13 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at her home with her family at her side. She was born September 29, 1924, in Madison, Illinois, a daughter of the late Theodore DuBay and the late Martha (Holody) Sadrakula. She married the love of her life, Francis B. “Barney” Schwarzkopf on February 21, 1954, in Madison, Illinois and he passed away on January 19, 2018. Jean was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City where she was a member of the Altar Society.
She enjoyed reading and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and John Benning of Collinsville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Debbie Schwarzkopf of Collinsville, Mark Schwarzkopf of Granite City and Frank and Karen Schwarzkopf of Granite City; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica Schwarzkopf, Kyle and Cassie Schwarzkopf, Corey Schwarzkopf, Rachel and Nathan Wagner, Ryan and Jenna Schwarzkopf and Derek Benning; four great-grandchildren, Gus Schwarzkopf and Isla Schwarzkopf, Calvin Wagner and Theo Schwarzkopf; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by many siblings.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church or to Masses.
